Strong Youth

Summer 2022 – STRONG Youth: “Portraits of Resilience

AMLF (with generous support from Joy of Giving Something Foundation) sponsored a photography workshop presented by photographer, Saskia Keely.  The program focused on Self-Love with teens who have a hard time accessing a place of love and appreciation for themselves. The participants explored their gifts, values, heroes, dreams. The final exercise explored the prompt: “What if the sky is the limit”; each participant photographed their partner from the ground up – giving a sense of power and illuminating sky and trees.  The gallery above includes the self-portraits with the one word inscribed for how the teen sees himself / herself at this moment in life.

S.T.R.O.N.G. Youth, Inc. is a youth, family and community development organization specializing in youth, gang, and gun violence prevention and intervention. S.T.R.O.N.G. Youth was built on the belief that the cure for our region’s gang epidemic is in educating and empowering our communities to provide alternatives for our youth. Through youth empowerment programs and activities that promote positive values, S.T.R.O.N.G. gives young men and women the tools to eliminate negative behaviors associated with involvement with gangs and violence.
